White Barn Open House June 3rd

The Norwalk Land Trust has invited the public to an Open House Tour of the White Barn Property (440 Newtown Ave.) from noon to 2 p.m., Sunday (June 3) with punch and cookies supplied.

“Bring family and friends,” says NLT President Seeley Hubbard, “and walk the property to explore nature at its best. Learn about water quality, wildlife and plans for the future of this enchanting wooded tract.”

The NLT has launched a campaign to raise $4 million to preserve the 15.4-acres of woodland, wetland and meadows on the Norwalk/Westport line, one of the last remaining large parcels of private open space in Norwalk.

For more than 50 years the property was the site of theatre legend Lucille Lortel’s storied White Barn Theatre, an incubator and showcase for playwrights, actors, dancers and other performing artists. Because of extensive deterioration, the house and theater were demolished last August.

The open house, originally set for May 20, was rescheduled because of inclement weather.
