Norwalk Health Department to Offer Moderna Booster Clinics for Eligible Groups

The Norwalk Health Department will host two Moderna booster clinics for eligible groups next week:

Thursday, November 4, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Maritime Aquarium (10 N. Water Street) and Friday, November 5, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Norwalk City Hall in the Community Room (125 East Avenue).

Appointments are required.

In accordance with US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, the following groups are eligible to receive a Moderna booster shot.

• Individuals who received Pfizer or Moderna for their first vaccine series at least 6 months ago and are:

o 65 years of age or older

o Age 18+ and live in long-term care settings

o Age 18+ with underlying health conditions (learn more here), or

o Age 18+ and work or live in high-risk settings

• Individuals age 18+ who received the J&J vaccine at least 2 months ago

Next week’s booster clinics are by appointment only. To register for an appointment, visit vams.cdc.gov/. Please bring your COVID-19 vaccine card with you at the time of your appointment. If you have questions or need help making an appointment, please call the Health Department Vaccine Information Line at 203-854-7985 or visit www.norwalkct.org/vaccine.

While the Health Department is providing Moderna at these upcoming clinics, the CDC has authorized all three COVID-19 vaccines for use for booster doses in eligible individuals.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and CDC have authorized “mix-and match” dosing for booster shots. As CDC states, “Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. Some people may have a preference for the vaccine type that they originally received, and others may prefer to get a different booster.”

You can find Pfizer, J&J, and Moderna boosters at many local retailers and community clinics throughout the region. Find local COVID-19 vaccine providers at (https://covidvaccinefinder.ct.gov/) or the weekly schedule of mobile clinics in Norwalk, posted at https://www.norwalkct.org/vaccine.

Vaccine boosters are an exciting next step in the ongoing fight against COVID-19.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity to offer the Moderna booster shot to help provide additional protection against COVID-19 and its variants to those who are eligible. If you meet the eligibility criteria, please come for a booster shot to help keep yourself and community safe,” said Deanna D’Amore, MPH, Director of Health for the Norwalk Health Department.

In addition to the COVID-19 booster clinics, the Norwalk Health Department encourages anyone who is not yet vaccinated to visit our local network of providers to get their first and second doses. Vaccines are the best way to reduce the risk of severe disease, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19.
