Norwalk Community College Offers EMT Basic Training

Have you ever wanted to learn the skills to help people in emergency medical situations? In partnership with Norwalk Hospital, Norwalk Community College is offering training to become an Emergency Medical Technician. The EMT Basic course begins January 14.

This course teaches proper techniques in first aid, patient assessments, extrication, communication and other concepts.  Included is training in HAZMAT (hazardous materials) and terrorism awareness. The class meets all National Registry and Connecticut requirements and prepares students to take the National Registry exam.  In addition to classroom instruction, all students are required to complete EMS clinical time at Norwalk Hospital. 

EMT Basic meets from 6 to 10 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays Jan. 14 to May 18 (except on holidays) and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays Feb. 2, March 2 and 30, April 13 and 27, and May 11 and 18.  Instructor Harry A. Downs II, EMT-P, EMS-I  has been a field paramedic at Norwalk Hospital for 30 years and has more than 40 years of experience in pre-hospital emergency care.
