We All Can Prevent Suicide: Learn How in Westport on Sept. 11 and Norwalk Sept. 12

National Suicide Prevention Week (September 8-14, 2019) is quickly approaching! Although there is no single cause of suicide, one of the risks for suicide is social isolation, and there’s scientific evidence for reducing suicide risk by making sure we connect with one another. We can all play a role through the power of connection by having real conversations about mental health with people in everyday moments – whether it’s with those closest to us, or the coffee barista, parking lot attendant, or the grocery store clerk. Each suicide has a major impact on 6-12 close family and friends, as well as affecting larger circles of acquaintances.

Learn the steps of being suicide alert! Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Positive Directions- The Center for Prevention and Counseling will be hosting 2 free trainings of Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) at the following dates and locations:

Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 6:30-8:00pm

Be aware of your resources. If you or someone you know needs help, call the National Lifeline 24/7 at 1-800-273-TALK, or call 211 to be connected to a mobile crisis service near you in CT. The Crisis Text Line is another great option: text "hello" to 741741. And... take care of yourself.
