Open Your Heart and Home to a Child in Need

The Annie C Courtney Foundation is hosting its monthly information meeting for prospective foster and adoptive parents at the Norwalk Town Hall, located at 125 East Avenue Norwalk, CT 06851, on Wednesday February 19, 2020 at 5:45pm. Join us to learn more about becoming a foster or adoptive parent through one of seven licensed regional foster care agencies, including DCF. Can’t attend at this time? At the meeting, staff provide information to prospective families regarding licensing requirements; individual children available for immediate placement; and an overview of the child welfare system. We help you identify the right agency to fit your family’s needs. There is no cost or obligation for services.

By parenting a waiting child, you will help a child heal and enrich your own life. “I cannot believe I get to do this job,” states one foster mom. “The satisfaction I get is seeing the kids I care for start to blossom. I love seeing a child’s self-confidence grow. The most amazing thing is when a child starts to feel safe and secure, and you can see the worry and stress melt way.”

Foster families receive assistance with medical and dental care, and a daily stipend to cover the costs associated with caring for a child. Social workers visit regularly to provide supports to families and the children under their care and supervision. Additional services are provided for kids who need them.

“I missed having children in my home,” maintains another foster mom. “I love being a ‘mom’ again. And I find it so rewarding to have been a part of the kids’ lives when they needed it most. I miss them when they leave but I always try to stay connected with them after they move on.” Foster families are encouraged to maintain ongoing relationships with children’s biological families and/or adoptive families – relationships that continue long past the day a child leaves your home. It is one of the many rewards associated with being a foster parent.
