On Sunday, March 22 at 3 pm, the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Jonathan Yates, will play side-by-side with the Norwalk Youth Symphony’s Principal Orchestra in a rousing performance of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Paul Dukas. You will be "WOWED" with a unique way of experiencing this classic work!
Another highlight of the afternoon will be young piano virtuoso Avery Duer, this year’s winner of the 8th Annual Young Artists Concerto Competition. She will perform the first movement of Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto with full orchestra.
Finally, in honor of Beethoven’s 250th birthday, the audience will hear the composer’s First Symphony and Egmont Overture. Christopher McCormack, Norwalk Symphony member, will be the guest conductor for the Egmont Overture.
Avery Duer, a Greens Farms Academy senior and Vassar College bound, has garnered numerous awards in recent years. In 2018, she won First Place in the Connecticut Bach Festival, Second Place in the Senior Chopin Award at the Schubert Club Competition of Fairfield County, and Second Place at the Chappaqua Orchestra Concerto Competition. In 2017, she won “Most Outstanding Performance” at the Annual CSMTA Deborah Kahan Competition. That same year, she performed at the Vianden International Festival in Luxembourg.
Stepping Stones Museum for Children will be facilitating a ‘magical’ craft project before the show and during intermission. Bring the family and share the joy of listening to wonderful music in an acoustically renowned concert hall. We will also be collecting food and personal care products for The Pantry@NCC for students attending Norwalk Community College.
