Nonprofit bookstore to open in Westport will employ adults with disabilities

A force for good - new nonprofit book shop in Westport to employ adults with disabilities and support Westport Library

Westport Book Shop opens this Thursday, January 28 at 3pm, 23 Jesup Road. This is no ordinary bookstore. The nonprofit has a powerful dual mission: to provide meaningful employment for adults with disabilities, while raising funds to support the programming and operations of the Westport Library, through our used book sales.

President Jocelyn Barandiaran and her team at Westport Book Shop explain,"The unemployment rate for Americans with disabilities is twice as high as that of people with no disabilities. Additionally, after high school, public educational services and social networks disburse for young adults with disabilities. Gainful employment supports independent identity, self-esteem and financial, social and emotional health, while building transferable job and workplace social skills."

Hours of operation:

Thursdays and Fridays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturdays and Sundays from Noon to 5 p.m.

Closed Mondays through Wednesdays

Now you can shop your favorite book sale, and benefit the Westport Library, all year 'round
