The Maritime Garage Gallery Seeks Art For First In-Person Exhibit Since 2019

The City of Norwalk Parking Authority’s Maritime Garage Gallery is inviting submissions of art from artists 18 and over for its newest exhibit, the first live show since December 2019. The exhibit titled “About Face: Through Artistic Eyes” will focus on expression through portraiture.

“About Face” will run from November 4, 2021, beginning with an opening reception, through January 7, 2022. The exhibit will be curated by Robert Abriola, the Maritime Garage Gallery's curator and local Norwalk artist.

“About Face” will feature expressive personality and portraiture art that depicts unique perspectives through the artists’ eyes. Artists are asked to search beyond the ordinary to develop compelling visuals, including both animate and inanimate forms that evoke thought, passion, as well as hardship, conflict, and spiritual freedom. Clever uses of medium, with the exception of pedestal sculpture, are welcome.

A jury will determine the best among the entries to receive Best In Show as well as First and Second Runners Up. For guidelines and submissions, go to www.norwalkpark.org/callforart. Please email maritimegallery@norwalkpark.org with any questions. The deadline for submissions is October 2, 2021.

The Maritime Garage Gallery is part of the Parking Authority’s “Art in Parking Places” placemaking initiative, an effort to support art in parking spaces. The gallery is located at 11 North Water Street in the SoNo district of Norwalk. It is free and open to the public from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, call 203- 831-9063, or visit www.norwalkpark.org/public-art.
