Fairfield County’s Community Foundation’s Fund for Women and Girls Provide Expert Insights About Black Maternal Health
On Monday, Nov. 13, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation will launch the Black Maternal Health Initiative, a collaborative effort designed to address stark disparities in maternal outcomes in Fairfield County where:
- Black women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than their white peers.
- Low birth-weight rates for Black babies are twice that of white babies.
- The infant mortality rate for Black babies is three times that of white babies.
Experts from FCCF’s Fund for Women and Girls – the largest fund for women and girls in New England – are available to provide important context about the new Black Maternal Health Initiative, educating the community on Black maternal health and highlighting the ongoing efforts of community partners striving for birth equity and systemic change. FCCF can also connect journalists with local nonprofits and grassroots organizations who can speak about the realities of Black maternal health needs in Fairfield County and beyond.
Please register here to join us on Nov. 13.
