Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Norwalk Metropolitan Youth Ballet!

Three questions with Christina Holms, Executive Director of Norwalk Metropolitan Youth Ballet.

Finish this sentence in regard to your business. “I wish I could…”
I wish I could express to parents that we teach so much more than ballet technique. We teach discipline, creative problem solving, perseverance, grit, self-care, how to find the positive in themselves and in their classmates, the joy in overcoming obstacles, how to be humble, the pride in their accomplishments, that there’s a place for everyone in ballet, and so much more. NMYB offers ballet technique blended with important life lessons delivered by instructors and mentors who are dedicated to the success of each student. It’s a recipe for success for our students in the classroom, and beyond.

Best selling product/service?

Norwalk Metropolitan Youth Ballet specializes in classical ballet instruction for children who love to dance.  Our curriculum sets the foundation for the primary student and nurtures the pre-professional artist. More than ballet instruction, at NMYB your child will be part of a community of dancers with mentors who will nurture their development. During NMYB’s year-round season dancers are trained to develop their technique, artistry, and personality through classical and contemporary technique classes, creative movement, pointe, men’s class, partnering class, and ensemble experiences. NMYB’s Apprentice Ensemble and Ensemble Ètoile dancers benefit from the opportunity to compete in the world’s largest ballet competition, Youth America Grand Prix. Whether a recreational dancer or one who aspires to become a professional ballet dancer, NMYB is the place for you!

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We are very fortunate to have many local business partners, and we all support each other. We go to Attitude Dance & Active Wear and Beam and Barre for all ballet attire, The Silk Touch for headpieces and props, Westport Country Playhouse and Quick Center for the Arts are our performance venues this season, Granville Printing for all programs, posters and other printing needs, Caitlin Hagedus is our graphic artist, and we’re delighted to be able to support all of these local small businesses, and more, in our community.
