Norwalk Community College Student Art On Display At The Maritime Garage Gallery in SoNo

The City of Norwalk Parking Authority’s Maritime Garage Gallery opens its latest exhibit on May 30. The exhibit entitled, “From A Student’s Perspective,” features art created by students of Norwalk Community College.  The exhibit runs from May 30 through June 29, 2019 with an opening reception on May 30 at 5:00 p.m.

“From a Students Perspective” presents a variety of artworks from students who are pursuing a degree in the Studio Arts from the Art, Architecture and Design Department at Norwalk Community College. A selection of works in drawing, painting, design, photography, ceramics and sculpture will be exhibited. NCC offers two-year Associate Degrees in Studio and Fine Arts, Architectural Engineering, Interior Design, Graphic Design and Web Design.

“A majority of our students are just beginning to explore their interest in art and a possible career in some type of creative field,” says Joe Fucigna, Chair of the Art Department at Norwalk Community College. “We cannot under estimate how important it is for students such as this to have the opportunity to exhibit their work in a professional art gallery. It confirms to them and their family and friends that they have skill sets that are proficient enough to be juried into a professional gallery.”

The Maritime Garage Gallery is part of the Parking Authority’s “Art in Parking Places” placemaking initiative, an effort to support art in parking spaces. The gallery is located at 11 North Water Street in the SoNo district of Norwalk. It is free and open to the public from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, call 203- 831-9063, or visit www.norwalkpark.org/public-art.
