Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Jim's Ice Cream Truck!

Three questions with Jim Malin, owner of Jim's Ice Cream Truck.

Why did you start your business?

I found an interest in running an ice cream truck after working in an ice cream truck in 2003.  In late 2009, I bought my very own truck and began running my own business in 2010 in Fairfield County Connecticut.

Finish this sentence in regard to your business. “I wish I could…”

I wish I could quickly and easily expand my business with more trucks in order to provide my service to more people.  I sometimes have to turn down parties because I am already booked at another party/event.  Right now I only have one truck.  But I will hopefully have another truck soon.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

I use 9 that I can think of:
Honeyspot Gulf - gas station
Joe's Ice Cream - ice cream distributor
Connecticut Ice Cream Trucks - ice cream distributor
Mostly Motorsports - mechanic shop
I95 Signs - signs/lettering/decals
State Farm - insurance
Mutual Security Credit Union - bank/credit union
Napa Auto Parts - auto parts
Advance Auto - auto parts

Jim's Ice Cream Truck nominate I95 Signs
