Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

Why did you start your business?

The Norwalk Symphony Society was created and organized in 1939! So we are celebrating our 80th consecutive season during 2019-2020.  While the orchestra consists of approximately 80 part-time professional musicians and 1.5 office staff, we have volunteers from high school through their 80's who help with concerts and in the office.

Finish this sentence in regard to your business: I wish I could...

I wish I could let everyone in the Greater Norwalk community know what a gem they have in their midst and that it isn't necessary to travel to New York City to hear excellent quality performances and musicians! It is amazing that folks who have spent their entire lives in the area have no idea that there is a professional orchestra within a few miles of their homes.

Do you use any local businesses to support your business?

We bank at Fairfield County Bank, hold our annual meetings at local restaurants, our printing is done by Paul's Prosperous Printing in Wilton; and we advertise with The Norwalk Hour and other online media that have local segments.

Norwalk Symphony Society is located at 25 Van Zant Street, Suite 14-3 in Norwalk. Visit them online here.

HamletHub thanks Fairfield County Bank for making our Why Small Businesses Matter series possible!
