Creativity Connects Norwalk: Meet Beth Merrill, Executive Director of Norwalk River Valley Trail

Creativity Connects Norwalk

What fuels a vibrant, connected and creative community? What makes people feel good about living in Norwalk?

When locals share the creativity that they uncover in the nooks and crannies of their community it brings about connectivity and makes us all feel good.

Believe it or not, you discover creativity every day as you walk, shop, work, and play in Norwalk.

Creativity connects us. Meet Beth J. Merrill, Executive Director of Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT).

Is there a person or organization using creativity to provoke change in Norwalk?

The NRVT (Norwalk River Valley Trail)  is working hard with the City of Norwalk to create a fantastic green space.  NRVT will be adding to the trail very soon from Union Park heading north, followed by additional mileage along the river and up to the Town of Wilton.  The creative minds that conceived this wonderful amenity are helping all in Norwalk find a safe and peaceful place to push strollers, ride bikes, walk pets, run and hike in sight of the beauty of Connecticut nature.

Where do you see creativity when you shop locally?

Cafe Dolce on Main Street!  They have a very charming coffee cafe with excellent homemade European pastries, light meals and delicious coffees. He has yummy and beautifully presented foods that make you feel like you are dining in a charming foreign town. Currently (during COVID) they added a mini patio in the parking lot. A creative offering with attentive staff.

Is there an organization in town that makes you feel good?

I love to go to the NRVT Trail near Broad St in Norwalk.  It is on the beautiful Norwalk River and very peaceful.  The egrets, ducks, and other waterbirds glide along the river, and just seeing them helps me to relax as I walk along.

The Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT) helps people enjoy the great outdoors, in an urban setting that is unexpectedly close to nature.  Go to the top of Oystershell Park for a lovely view, stroll along the river near Broad Street and go through Lockwood Park for 3 different ways to enjoy Norwalk's nature.
