Three questions with Jim Malin, founder of Jim’s Ice Cream Truck.

What do you want the community to know? Are there ways for the community to help you and other local businesses to prosper?

I want the community to know that I try very hard to provide exceptional service so they can be assured that they will have an enjoyable experience without problems. One way to help me is this: I am planning to implement cross-promotion marketing which consists of local businesses with similar target markets helping each other by including something in their marketing efforts.

So for example, I can include a coupon about another local business in my email marketing while the other business staples my coupon to their customer's bags. It's a very cost-effective strategy. So I would like to get in contact with or hear from businesses in the greater Bridgeport area to do this.

Are there certain individuals or organizations that supported you and your business through this trying time?

One organization that comes to mind is the Sterling House in Stratford. They have done business with me consistently in the past few years even during the pandemic. So I am very grateful to them.

Please share the ways your business is adapting to keep your customers and employees safe in addition to the standard guidelines.

I installed plexiglass in place of the serving window which has 2 small openings at the bottom to pass the ice cream through. I keep a mask and gloves available for when it's needed. I also keep a spray bottle of multipurpose cleaner and another with bleach and water to keep all the surfaces extra clean. I keep a sign posted on the truck encouraging non-cash payments.
