Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Medicare Plan Advisory!

Four questions with Charles Yost, President of Medicare Plan Advisory.

Why did you start your business?

When I retired from my financial planning business, I decided to continue my interests and efforts in advising about Medicare. I am a senior and I know firsthand that the Medicare rules and regulations are complicated and hard to grasp. Also, there is a great need for advice in this area, especially one on one advice where it can be very clear for the client.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Medicare Advantage is probably the “best-selling” product. Partly because I believe that most life insurance brokers are qualified to sell only Supplement Plans or Medi Gap plans. Medicare Advantage plans are overseen by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid and require annual testing and certification. So the only product that non to certified brokers can sell is the Medi Gap plans.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

I have reimagined by the business just recently to include health insurance for people 64 years of age and under. That insurance is offered on the state platform called Access Health CT. That is the marketplace for the Affordable Care Act insurance.
