Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Eco Evolution!

Four questions with Brad Kerner, founder of Eco Evolution.

Why did you start your business?

I wanted to see more and more people going lower waste, reducing their plastic consumption, and buying products that are good for people and the planet. I'm a low-waster. I was tired of buying all these specialty products online which led me to start this business and a retail store.

What is your best-selling product/service?

People love my laundry sections. Laundry strips and dryer balls are a huge seller which makes me happy as they really are great low waste products. My soap refill station is starting to take off and everyone loves my vintage and pre-loved section.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

In addition to being the owner of Eco Evolution, I am also a local artisan cooperative so I have 40+ local artisans represented in my store.

I love my cleaning service because they also make all-natural cleaners that I sell in the store. The business is Cleaning Studio and located in Fairfield.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

I’ve only been in business for a few months so this whole venture is a reimagined career after being in the nonprofit space for 20+ years.
