Norwalk Health Department Hosts Flu Clinics

National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW), a national public health awareness campaign aimed at highlighting the importance of getting the influenza vaccine, is this week: December 5 – 11, 2021. In honor of this annual observance, the Norwalk Health Department reminds residents that it’s not too late to get your flu shot. Getting an annual flu shot is recommended for everyone 6 months and older and is the best way to help protect against the flu.

The Norwalk Health Department will host community flu clinics on the next two Thursdays (December 9 and December 16), from 2 - 4 pm at the Health Department (137 East Avenue, Norwalk, CT 06851). Standard and high-dose flu vaccine will be available.

No appointments are required. Flu shots are offered at no cost with most insurance. Otherwise, the standard flu vaccine costs $25 per person, and the highdose flu vaccine (available for patients 65 and older) costs $50 per person. No one will be turned away because they are unable to pay. For more information, call 203-854- 7985 or visit www.norwalkct.org/flu. Other locations in our area can be found here.

“With the peak of flu season approaching, there is still time to receive your annual flu shot to protect yourself, your family, and those around you who are at a higher risk of developing severe flu complications. It’s not too late!” states Deanna D’Amore, MPH, Director of Health for Norwalk Health Department.

Each flu season is different, which is why it’s so important to receive your flu shot each year. Flu vaccines have been shown to reduce the risk of illness, complications, hospitalizations, and flu-related death. In addition to getting your flu shot, the Norwalk Health Department encourages residents to continue washing their hands, covering their mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, and staying home if feeling sick to help protect yourself and others around you from contracting the flu.
