Pleasantville H.S. Students Score on Merit Scholarship Test

Seven Pleasantville High Schhol seniors are among the 50,000 top scorers of the over 1.6 million students who took the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test in October 2016

Allegra Copland and Olivia DeMeo attained Semifinalist status and will continue in the competition for 7500 scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be awarded in Spring 2018.

Hannah Collins, Michael Kokkat, Kayley Lewis, Arthur Rogers, and Andrew Song were named Commended Students.

Of the 50,000 students who scored 211 or above on the qualifying test, approximately 16,000 were designated Semifinalists. The remaining 34,000 have been named Commended Students.

Semifinalists are selected on a state representational basis; that is, the number of Semifinalists for a state is proportional to that state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors. For example, a student with score of 220 might be a Semifinalist in one state, but a Commended Student in another; and vice versa.
