Free admission for kids this week at White Memorial museum! What are you waiting for?

From July 6 - 12, in memory of Louise W. Willson, there is free admission to the White Memorial Conservation Center museum in Litchfield for children ages twelve and under when accompanied by an adult. White Memorial is located at 80 Whitehall Road in Litchfield.

What else is going on at White Memorial this week?

There will be a free talk given by Mike Evans on "Bear Ecology in the Urban - Wildland Interface" on Wednesday, July 9, at 7 p.m. in the A.B. Ceder Room. The event is free but donations will be accepted to help defray the Conservation Center's programming expenses.

Evans is a PhD student at UCONN. His current dissertation research concentrates on understanding the effects of human density on black bear population ecology in Connecticut. Learn more about bears and their behavior in your neighborhood and around the state.

A Celebration of The Bantam River will be held on Friday, July 11, at 6:30 p.m. in the A.B. Ceder Room. The festivities begin that evening with a presentation by Washington Chef, Photographer, and Adventurer, Horst Antosch. Nibble hors d'oeuvres, sip wine, and immerse yourself in Antosch's ethereal images.

The celebration continues on Saturday morning, July 12, at 6:30 a.m. Meet at the boat launch on Whites Woods Road for an early morning interpretive paddle down the Bantam River. End at Litchfield Town Beach, where you will be treated to a delicious breakfast prepared for you by Gerri Griswold. Pray for perfect weather! Kayaks or canoes can be rented through Dave Faber at CT Outdoors, LLC by calling 860-274-6213 or bring your own! Members: $20.00. Non-members: $30.00.For more information, go to www.whitememorialcc.org
