REDDING - Today State Representatives Dan Carter (R-2) and John Shaban (R-135) visited John Read Middle School (JRMS) to recognize the hard work of the students and teachers who earned the highly competitive National Blue Ribbon School distinction.
This year JRMS was one of only 8 Connecticut schools to receive the award, which they were granted as a result of continuous, "Exemplary High Performing" test scores.
"This achievement puts our educational model on the map," SAID REP. CARTER. "Earning national recognition for academic excellence is a testament to the effective and nurturing learning community JRMS fosters. Congratulations to the hard working students and teachers."
"Academic achievement is more challenging today than ever before as varying student ability levels and diverse learning styles make school-wide success difficult to attain," SAID REP. SHABAN. "I commend the students, as well as the teachers, parents and administrators who work hard everyday to ensure that JRMS students succeed."
The National Blue Ribbon recognitions are bestowed annually by the U.S. Department of Education to a finite number of public and private elementary, middle and high schools.
Principal Diane Martin will travel with several teachers to Washington, D.C. on November 12 to receive the award at a certification ceremony.
