When long time Board of Ed member Ed Miller stepped down, there was a large gap to fill. Mr. Miller has been a well respected member of the BoE and his contributions will be missed. The Redding Democratic Town Committee worked hard to fill the vacancy. They found the perfect candidate in Sara Emir Sobel. Ms. Emir Sobel has been an active volunteer in many of the causes that matter to Redding. Most recently, she has been president of the JRMS PTA. Regretably she has decided to step down from that position in order to serve on the BoE.
A 14 year resident of Redding, Ms. Emir Sobel and her husband, Jon have a child in each of the Redding schools. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in English from Kent State University in Ohio and her Master’s Degree in Public Health Policy and Management from New York Medical College.
She began volunteering for the RES PTA when her oldest child was in preschool and that became a partnership that helped the Redding schools enormously. Ms. Emir Sobel has a unique drive and her contributions to the betterment of our schools has been felt by all. She says, "I have always found our schools to be vibrant, innovative and inclusive learning communities led by excellent administrators and teachers who reach for educational excellence on a daily basis."
She also said,"For the past several years, I have regularly attended Board of Education meetings and have learned to appreciate the time, careful consideration and thoroughness with which the Board approaches its mission while developing a competent understanding of education in our town. I was fortunate to volunteer on the Metrics and Measurements Committee, the Calendar Committee and the Interview Committee for Redding’s Director of Special Services. Additionally, I am enjoying serving on the Board of the Redding Education Foundation. In all of these endeavors, I have truly enjoyed the collaborative process and the positive relationships I have been able to establish with administrators, teachers, parents and other community leaders.
Redding welcomes Sara Emir Sobel to the Board of Ed!
