UPDATE: Friday, January 19:
Unfortunately, Our Ice Rink at RCC has to be closed.
We had a staff member shoveling the light snow off of the rink today. They went thru the ice.
This happened on the exact sections where people clearly went on the ice before it was open on at least 2-3 occasions this week. People went on the ice and started to shovel before it was ready Tuesday despite signs saying it was closed. They created frozen chunks of ice that couldn't be removed; especially on thin ice. I assume they left when the ice started to crack. Again last night, after our staff coated the surface of the rink with a fresh layer of water, people went on despite caution tape last evening.
Again we are sorry, that the rink is not safe to use.
