Details on Route 7 accident: one fatality

Location of Incident: RT 7 just north of Ridgefield Town Line

Incident Type: Motor Vehicle Crash

Summary:

Redding Police are currently investigating a 3 car motor vehicle crash on Route 7 which occurred today at about 3:35 pm. A vehicle, which was traveling southbound on Route 7, was struck head-on by a northbound vehicle, which had crossed into the southbound lane. The operator of the southbound vehicle sustained serious injuries, had to be extricated from the vehicle and was transported to Danbury Hospital in critical condition. The two occupants of the northbound vehicle were also transported to Danbury Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The operator of a third vehicle was not injured. The cause of the crash is under

investigation by Officers of the Major Accident Investigation Team.

Route 7 was closed until about 5:45 while the investigation was completed.

Georgetown and Ridgefield Fire Departments responded and transported all patients to Danbury Hospital.

Names are not being released at this time.

The victim in the motor vehicle crash on RT 7 yesterday has died.  The Redding Police Department was notified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner this morning that the victim was pronounced at Danbury Hospital this morning.  Crash is still under investigation.
 
Name of victim is not being released at this time but she is a female Ridgefield, CT resident.  The Redding Police Department will release the name of the victim on Monday to permit the family time to make proper notifications.

The Redding Police Department was notified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner this morning that the victim in the motor vehicle crash that took place on RT 7 yesterday was pronounced dead at Danbury Hospital this morning. Michelina (Mickey Roth) Abbate of Ridgefield passed away as a result of injuries sustained in the accident. We just spoke with Kane Funeral Home who will release details regarding the services soon.
