Petit Family Foundation Awards Grant to Women’s Center
The Women’s Center recently received an $8,000 grant from the Petit Family Foundation. These funds will be used to help meet increasing demand for the Center’s free and critical primary prevention education in local schools. During the 2014 fiscal year, the Women’s Center provided more than 800 comprehensive education and prevention programs in our 13-town service area. These services were provided by specially trained and certified staff and volunteers in pre-school, elementary, middle and high schools, on college campuses, as well as to community youth groups, sports teams and organizations.
Pat Zachman, President & CEO, stated “this funding could not have come at a better time, as the fiscal climate continues to challenge non-profits to do more and more with less and less. The Women’s Center is very grateful to the Petit Family Foundation for their generous recognition and support of our efforts to address the reduction of victimization, prevention of perpetrations of abuse, and the social roots of violence.”
The Women’s Center provides free and confidential services to prevent or lessen the trauma associated with domestic violence, sexual assault and other major life transitions to thousands of women, children and men annually. The programs of the Women’s Center are supported by state and local government, area United Way agencies and the people and businesses in the communities we serve including Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Danbury, Kent, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield, Roxbury, Sherman, and Washington, CT.
