Hillside Food Outreach Emergency Deliveries Increase more than 1000% Due to Coronavirus

Since mid-March, Hillside Food Outreach has increased its emergency food deliveries by more than 1000 percent as the number of people quarantined and/or isolated due to the Coronavirus oubreak in Westchester and Putnam Counties in New York, and Fairfield County in Connecticut multiplies.

Kathleen Purdy, Founder and Executive Director of Hillside Food Outreach, and her staff, have enlisted more volunteers to keep up with the urgent and fast-growing need for food and medicine deliveries to quarantined residents. The expanded team is working tirelessly to keep up with the demand.

“The phones have been ringing off the hook as more and more cases of Coronavirus impact residents of Westchester, Putnam and Fairfield Counties,” explained Purdy. “The people we are helping through this crisis are so relieved and happy to have the food and medicine they need so badly right now and we are so glad to be able to help.”

Purdy says that Hillside needs financial donations so they can replenish food supplies and continue to serve people who need it most. She asks people to donate at HillsideFoodOutreach.org.

About Hillside Food Outreach

In 1997, Kathleen Purdy learned that her grandmother was buying food for her neighbors who would otherwise have to choose between buying groceries or purchasing medicine. Kathy immediately arranged for food assistance for all 20 of the neighbors her grandmother was feeding. Word spread and it became apparent that more people in the community needed assistance and Hillside Food Outreach was born. Today, volunteers deliver food each month to more than 2,000 people in Westchester and Putnam Counties in New York, and Fairfield County in Connecticut, who are unable, for a variety of reasons, to access other food pantry options.
