Gotham Writers Workshop Instructor to Lead Fiction Writing Course at Mark Twain Library

The Allen and Helen Hermes Arts Series will present an all-day Fiction Writers Workshop at The Mark Twain Library on Saturday, March 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Gotham Writers Workshop instructor Susan Breen will lead a one-day crash course in fiction writing that combines lectures on craft (plot, character, point of view, description) with writing exercises that let students immediately put into practice what they’ve learned. Participants should plan to arrive in the morning with a desire to learn and can expect to leave in the evening as a more knowledgeable writer.

The program is open to writers of any level. Ms. Breen will bring handouts to support her lectures and exercises. She said one of the goals of the program will be for students to share their work out loud, adding, “I like to try and establish a community feeling.”

Susan Breen is the author of the novel The Fiction Class (Plume and Headline Review UK), and the Maggie Dove series of mystery books (Random House Alibi). She has published short fiction in American Literary Review, Chattahoochee Review, Nebraska Quarterly, North Dakota Quarterly, anderbo, and Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine. She holds a BA from the University of Rochester and an MA in Economics from Columbia University.

Coffee and snacks will be served. Registrants are asked to bring a brown bag lunch.
