Redding League of Women Voters 2nd Annual Speak Up

The Redding League of Women Voters (RLWV) will hold its SECOND ANNUAL “Speak Up” on Wednesday, February 20th, in the Redding Community Center from 7:45pm-9:45 pm.

“Speak Up” is a grassroots opportunity to become better informed via direct dialogue between Redding residents and a cross section of elected officials and town employees. Citizen participation is vital to our democracy and to keeping government transparent and effective.

Our invited panelists include:

From Redding: First Selectman; Social Services Director; Board of Finance Chair; Health Officer; Chief of Police; Superintendent of Schools; Fire Chief; Planning and Zoning Officer; Building Inspector; Park & Recreation Director

CT State Legislators: State Senator, Will Haskell and State Representatives, Raghib Allie-Brennan and Anne Hughes.

ALL Redding residents are encouraged to attend and participate in this civil discourse, which will be moderated by RLWV board member, Colleen Joyce. Residents are invited to ask questions and/or voice their concerns. Even if you would rather just listen, please come to get informed!

The LWV of the United States was established in 1920 when the 19th amendment to the Constitution granted women the right to vote. It evolved from the Women’s Suffrage Movement. The League of Women Voters of Connecticut (LWVCT) was formed in 1921 and the RLWV was formed in 1954. The RLWV seeks to improve the quality of our democracy by increasing voters’ knowledge of candidates and issues at the local, state and national levels.

The LWV is a nonpartisan political organization which encourages informed and active participation of citizens in government and works to increase understanding of major public policy through education and advocacy.

Please join your friends and neighbors on Wednesday evening, February 20th with your questions and comments. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Phyllis Rhodes at Phyllis.Rhodes@optonline.net .
