Experience Woodstock in Redding on August 10

Unplugged and Behind the Scenes With Ira & Maxine Stone

Relive the iconic music festival or experience it for the first time when Ira and Maxine Stone perform at The Mark Twain Library as part of the Hermes Arts Series on August 10, 2019 from 3:00-4:30pm.

Ira and Maxine Stone are singers, songwriters and guitarists who have been living in Redding for more than two decades. In August 1969 the two were headed to perform at the now-famous musical extravaganza when they were stuck in traffic. They eventually made it to the event by helicopter and played on the same stage as Richie Havens, Credence Clearwater Revival, Arlo Guthrie, Joan Baez and many more. Now, in this 50th anniversary year of the Woodstock Music Festival, we are honored to have them join us at the Mark Twain Library for a unique evening of entertainment.

“We are thrilled to have such a talented couple living right here in our community and excited to be able to share their music and stories in such a special setting,” said Mark Twain Library Director Beth Dominianni. It will be an intimate gathering of live music and storytelling where the Stones and their bandmates Rob Fried and Chris Pike will provide entertainment and nostaligia through songs interspersed with commentary from the big show. Audience members can participate by joining in on songs from Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, and Jefferson Airplane as well as experience the music of the amazing “Lost Bard of Woodstock,” Bert Sommer.  They will also be treated to never before heard onstage experiences and original artifacts and can even bring their own stories and queries of Back to the Garden.

Attire: If so moved, participants are free to don their tie-dye or fringe!

Refreshments will be served.

Seating is limited. Register online at www.marktwainlibrary.org, in person at the library or call 203-938-2545 for information.
