Redding Road Race, A Run for the Cows Postponed

Redding Road Race, A Run for the Cows, scheduled for Sunday, May 3, has been postponed until Sunday, September 20

In a note to participants, Race Director John McCleary said, "As you probably expected, and maybe dreaded, we must postpone our 2020 race until Sunday, September 20th.  I was holding out hope for a miracle breakthrough, but realism has set in.  Our roster includes runners from over 20 states and a few countries and their plans have to be changed/canceled. I’ve had 4 or 5 races postponed that I personally signed up for, so I feel your pain."

McCleary shares details about the upcoming race

  • September 20th was chosen as it’s really the only fall date until 11/15 with no local half marathons or big races.  I don’t want to hurt other races by placing my half on the same day as their’s is scheduled. The Cheshire Half has not set a new date for their race and I hope they don’t choose the same date as ours?? I’m hoping 9/20 is scheduled far enough out, Boston is rescheduled to 9/14 so, fingers crossed.
  • In a week or so, you’ll receive and email from me (or Runsignup) that will give you two options:
  1.   Remain on the roster and run the 9/20 race
  2.   Defer your registration until the 5/2/2021 race and pay nothing for the 2021 race.

A Run for the Cow includes a half marathon, 7 miler, kids fun run, and a Mighty Cow Challenge (16.2 or 10.1). There is currently a wait list for all race options with the exception of the Piglet Prance (Kids Fun Run).

The races begin and end at stunning New Pond Farm in West Redding, Connecticut with a starting time of 8:00am for the half and 8:35 for the 7 miler. All races are on bucolic country roads that have runners passing a horse farm, a waterfall, a rail road bridge, wetlands, streams, lakes, a historic schoolhouse circa 1789, while finishing in beautiful New Pond Farm. The course can be categorized as challenging and rolling (with plenty of short hills but none that would be classified as long).  There are also plenty of downhills and areas of flat running, so runners should have no problem settling into a comfortable pace.

The Piglet Prance (Kids' Fun Run) of 3/4 of a mile is entirely on New Pond Farm grounds and will occur before the start of the other two races (at 7:30 am).

Runners of every race will receive a gorgeous, in-house designed, 4" finishers medal, an in-house designed performace shirt and numerous other special surprise race goodies. It is our goal to have the Redding Road Race be the friendliest and best supported race of its kind in this area, or any area, for that matter, while benefitting New Pond Farm and it's wonderful programs.
