Last chance to bring the kids to see a movie for FREE this summer: Madagascar at The Ridgefield Playhouse Aug. 19

This summer many camps were closed and vacation plans were canceled, so when Phase 2 allowed theaters like The Ridgefield Playhouse to show films in a socially distanced, safe way, The Playhouse wanted to help out and give back to the community.  For the entire summer, the theater gave families something fun to do and provided FREE movie tickets for kids 12 and under to see a family-friendly film every Wednesday.

The positive feedback was tremendous with one patron writing about the film that she attended “So pleased to see that it was not crowded, no lines, we were seated apart from others, and everyone wore masks. I chose to wear gloves. Thank you for making it safe, and comfortable.  And what a treat to see a movie after four months!”

Now it’s your last chance to bring your kids to see a movie for FREE at The Playhouse. This Wednesday, August 19 at 2pm go on a great escape with the Dreamworks classic Madagascar starring Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith.    “We didn’t start showing films because we thought we would be making money from it,” Said Executive Director Allison Stockel.  “We really looked at it as a way to help people start to feel comfortable going out again.  We want this town to thrive, and right now it’s going to take baby steps for some people to feel comfortable being out with other people.  We wanted to create a safe place for them to go out with their families.”

Madagascar is a family favorite!  Alex the lion is the king of the urban jungle, the main attraction at New York's Central Park Zoo. He and his best friends -- Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo -- have spent their whole lives in blissful captivity before an admiring public and with regular meals provided for them. Not content to leave well enough alone, Marty lets his curiosity get the better of him and makes his escape -- with the help of some prodigious penguins -- to explore the world.

The Ridgefield Playhouse will continue to offer their Family Series events this fall, but will continue to replace the live presentations with film content. The Playhouse will offer a family friendly film every Saturday, such as the Harry Potter Series, so the entire family can enjoy the experience of seeing movies on the big screen!  We’ll keep the popcorn popping – we hope to see you at the movies!
