Mark Twain Library Welcomes Poet and Redding Resident Suzanne Frischkorn

In Recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month tomorrow Thursday, September 29 from 7:30 to 8:30 pm Mark Twain Library invites you to Meet the Poet: Suzanne Frischkorn

Join us for a special evening of poetry, process and inspiration with Redding’s award-winning creative writer, Suzanne Frischkorn, as she discusses her newly-published poetry collection: Fixed Star.

Suzanne’s latest work draws on her experience as a Cuban-American, and is the lens guiding the reader throughout the collection. Fixed Star, which has been called “structurally brilliant,” deftly illuminates the first-generation experience of navigating the fissures of life — in language, geography, government, culture and family.

Fixed Star, to be published this fall by JackLeg Press, is already receiving early praise from both poets and critics:

“Much of the book’s authority emerges from Frischkorn’s formal virtuosity. And then there are the voices she braids into the poems. Transtromer and Plath. Keats and John Cage. Shakespeare and Olga Guillot. They are lyric companions on a perilous road that takes her to Lorca, from whom she learns that “Leaving is difficult. Sometimes / to stay, invites death.”Fixed Star cannot be reduced to anything but itself. I am in genuine awe.” ─ Diane Seuss, 2022 Pulitzer Prize Winning author of frank: sonnets
