Grab your blankets, chairs and picnic basket and take in the sounds of jazz on the Museum Commons. Chris is a Connecticut jazz favorite who the New York Times calls “a masterful pianist.” A composer, performer, teacher, choir director and producer, rooted in the jazz and gospel traditions, Chris will kick off your weekend in style. Free and open to the public.

Discovering Amistad – A Two-Part Cultural Event

Captain’s Cove Seaport, Bridgeport

Saturday, August 26, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm 

In honor of Juneteenth, the Ridgefield Playhouse and Discovering Amistad have joined together to present a unique, two-part cultural event. Part two takes place at Captain’s Cove Seaport in Bridgeport, where the Amistad recreation will be reserved solely for ticket holders. Patrons will be greeted with traditional African drumming and dancing, along with welcoming remarks by both Discovering Amistad and The Ridgefield Playhouse. From there, the Discovering Amistad staff will treat you to private tours of the ship, where you can learn about its history and connection to Connecticut.

The world's longest running musical, which ran off-Broadway for 42 years, is funny, charming, and romantic. It’s an allegorical story about two neighboring fathers who trick their children into falling in love by pretending to feud.  A moving tale of young lovers who become disillusioned, only to discover a more mature, meaningful love which is punctuated by a bountiful series of catchy, memorable songs including "Try To Remember."  Running weekends through September 10th, 2PM and 8PM show times.

Al Jardine and His Endless Summer Band

Beach Boy fan alert! This guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, is best known for being one of the founding members of The Beach Boys, playing mainly rhythm guitar, singing harmony vocals and singing lead on their No. 1 hit "Help Me, Rhonda." In 1988, Al was inducted into the Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Beach Boys and in 2001, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award Grammy along with the other Beach Boys.

Head over Norwalk to find a treasure trove of antiques, repurposed furniture, upcycled collectibles, jewelry, crafts, household items, clothing, toys, specialty farm-to-table foods and more. Food trucks serving an array of delicious cuisines will sustain hungry and adventurous shoppers as they hunt for treasures and unique items. All proceeds will benefit the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum’s educational and cultural programs.

Enjoy a free reception and artist talk for a new show with work by Sandra Meagher, Mary Louise Long, Bevi Bullwinkel, and Florence Zolan. Mary Louise searches for that subjective shape that stirs the viewer to bouts of recognition and denial; Bevi sees painting as poetry, creating a sense of the transience of being and the mystery of the unknown; Florence combines mediums, using varied layers of collage, pastel, threads, objects and inks; Sandra is known best for work in black and white, but she “chose color as the story for this show.” Artist talk at 4 pm. On view through September 17th, 12-5 pm.

Using classic and modern forms and techniques, Pavan elicits beats and tones that are familiar, yet new and amplified by the expertly engineered acoustics of the Jim and Dede Bartlett Auditorium.

Join the Greenwich Choral Society for a Summer Sing-In at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with selections from their upcoming season: from Vivaldi’s lesser-known (but wonderfully fun) Magnificat RV 610, movements from Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, and from gorgeous works by Elaine Hagenberg, Paul Rudoi, and others.
