Redding's Boy's & Girl's Club raises $3,000

Mahalo! That's what Housatonic Habitat's Fran Normann said when more than 60 students from the Torch Club at the Boys & Girls Club of Redding-Easton presented Habitat with a check for more than $3,000.  The Torch Club, which is a program for Middle School students, raised funds by hosting a Luau fundraiser at the Redding Community Center.

Housatonic Habitat became the recipient of this year's campaign when students learned about how Habitat builds homes for people who might not otherwise have a decent place to live.  The club focuses on learning how to be good public servants and effective fundraisers for the cause that they care about.  "I am very proud of the kids in our club," said the Club's Co-Advisor Scott Smith.  "They wanted to support a charity that addressed housing and through their dedication were able to exceed the $2,500 fundraising goal the club had set for itself.  The Executive Director said, "Home is the key to creating sustainable change in our communities.  The funds these students raised will be used toward the construction of our current home.  We hope that the experience of helping others will also change their lives in the years ahead, too."
