Ancona's Wines spotlights organic and biodynamic farming with Chateau Le Puy

Chateau Le Puy: Unrelenting Commitment to Organic and Biodynamic

In a largely commercialized region like Bordeaux—Chateau Le Puy is a diamond in the rough. This historic family estate sits on the Bordeaux’s Right Bank in the Cote de Francs appellation where—similar to its neighbor St-Emilion—Merlot is king.

Perhaps the most notable attribute of this Chateau is its unrelenting commitment to Organic and Biodynamic farming. These philosophies often walk hand in hand, but it’s important to distinguish one from the other as both institutions have merit.

Organic: this is farming without herbicides and pesticides and avoiding chemical additives that have become an essential part of the recipe for industrial wine.

Biodynamics: invented by Rudolf Steiner in the 1920s, this school of thought also farms without herbicides and pesticides but takes organic farming one step further—approaching the vineyard not just as a farm but a living ecosystem and incorporating herbal and mineral preparations as a substitute for chemicals. Biodynamics also incorporates some astrological philosophies which are sometimes best taken with a grain of salt.

The Amoreau family of Chateau Le Puy would explain that these tenets are absolutely essential to what they do in Bordeaux.

The newest addition to the Chateau Le Puy lineup is ‘Duc des Nauves’—an entry-level wine which offers all of the hallmarks of classic Chateau Le Puy with an accessible cost of entry.
