Redding 4th Grade Capstone Project: Sometimes It Might Be Me

Sometimes It Might Be Me

Written and recorded by the RES 4th Grade Class of 2020
In conjunction with Artist-in-Residence Kevin Briody

One of the very special things the Redding Elementary School (RES) PTA does each year, thanks to the generosity of those who support our fundraising, is a 4th grade capstone project, led by Mrs. Weiss and an artist in residence, Kevin Briody.

Together, over the course of the school year, the kids learn about songwriting and the collaborative process, using so many of the skills they've gained at RES, to write and perform a song. Every year, parents of departing 4th graders get a copy of this very personal, special song that their children created together. Our current 4th grade is the 17th class to go through this powerful process. The school song all RES students know was one of these songs, and if you ask any kid who's gone through RES over the last decade and a half, they can probably still sing a few bars of their own 4th-grade song.

It's something we're incredibly proud to fund and this year, *more than ever*, we wanted to make sure you heard it. Please take a listen at the link below and read the lyrics our amazing RES students put together. They couldn't have imagined how much we would need to hear them today.

Congratulations to our fantastic 4th graders. We love you!

Take a risk, make a change, for your sister or your brother.
‘Cause it’s hard to take charge and stand up for one another.

Brave and bold, young and old, quietly or loud.
Flexible and focused when things are going south.
Positivity and patience, that’s what all good leaders need.
Sometimes it could be you, sometimes it might be me.

Dr. King and Gandhi didn’t care what people thought.
Didn’t stand on the side. They peacefully, fearlessly fought.

Brave and bold, young and old, quietly or loud.
Flexible and focused when things are going south.
Positivity and patience, that’s what all good leaders need.
Sometimes it could be you, sometimes it might be me.

Admit when you’re wrong and do what’s right
When the teacher leaves the room.
Encourage each other but don’t be a boss.
Easy to know but hard to do!

Brave and bold, young and old, quietly or loud.
Flexible and focused when things are going south.
Positivity and patience, that’s what all good leaders need.
Sometimes it could be you, sometimes it might be me.

Take a listen HERE (it's awesome by the way!)
