Help Send Off Team26 on May 5 at Edmond Town Hall

Help Send Off Team26 at 8:00 am on Saturday, May 5 at Edmond Town Hall

For the 6th time, 26 cyclists will ride to honor the 26 killed at the Sandy Hook School and all victims of gun violence, to raise awareness of the public health crisis of gun violence, and to support common-sense measures to reduce it.

We will again ride from Newtown, Connecticut to the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. We will leave Newtown on May 5th and ride towards and through states that are actually working to reduce gun violence. Until members of the Congress do their jobs and pass laws to make Americans safer instead of offering thoughts and prayers for victims, we will continue to ride. We will arrive in Washington on May 8th.

On December 14, 2012, twenty children and six educators lost their lives from a mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. During the spring of 2013, Monte Frank, a Newtown resident and father of children who attended Sandy Hook Elementary, responded by creating Team 26 - a group of 26 cyclists representing the 26 souls who were taken on December 14. That first year, Team 26 rode from Newtown to Washington DC to raise awareness of the lax gun laws in America.

Every year since then, Team 26 has cycled through some of the worst New England weather to deliver a message to Washington - Americans want sensible gun laws. Last year, for the 5th anniversary of the ride and a response at Washington's lack of action, Team 26 turned their backs and rode from Washington to Newtown. The message was clear - Congress is complicit in the senseless deaths each year as a result of America's gun epidemic.

As Team 26 enters its sixth year, the bike messengers will return to their original route to deliver a new message -- ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines and do not arm our teachers! Join us this May 5-8 as the Team 26 Rides from Newtown to Washington DC  to spread the message that this is the year for change.
