A Decade of Jazz at Sarah's Wine Bar

The Jazz Masters Series, at Sarah’s Wine Bar and Bernard’s Restaurant, will celebrate its tenth anniversary on Sunday, February 24th, with a performance by the Wycliffe Gordon Quartet.  Mr. Gordon is the preeminent voice on jazz trombone and is a highly regarded vocalist.  His upcoming appearance will be his first in the Jazz Masters Series, and he will be joined by Chris Pattishall, on piano, Corcoran Holt, on bass, and Alvin Atkinson, Jr., on drums.

A co-production of Avilena Music Productions, LLC and Sarah’s Wine Bar, the Jazz Masters Series has featured world-class jazz artists on the last Sunday of each month since February, 2009 and has now presented over one hundred programs.  Each evening offers the opportunity to experience the music front and center, in a warm and intimate setting, and to enjoy the celebrated cuisine of Chef Bernard Bouissou and his award-winning wine list.

Kenneth Needleman, President of Avilena Music Productions, LLC, conceived of the jazz series after being inspired by a photo calendar of the series of guitar nights hosted by the veteran jazz guitarist, John Pisano, in Los Angeles.  He approached Sarah Bouissou with the concept just after she and husband Bernard had launched Sarah’s Wine Bar, in the fall of 2008.  The Bouissous are avid supporters of the arts, and they embraced the opportunity.  Among the Jazz luminaries who have performed are Bucky Pizzarelli, Frank Wess, Dick Hyman, Howard Alden, Ken Peplowski, Jay Leonhart, Dan Brubeck, and Frank Vignola.

For reservations, please call Sarah’s Wine Bar/Bernard’s, at 203-438-7092.
