The Farewell Tour - Poetry Open Mic with Jack Powers

REDDING, CT, February 22, 2019 –Jack Powers, a Fairfield resident who teaches special education, math and English at Joel Barlow High School will read from his debut volume Everybody’s Vaguely Familiar on Sunday, March 3rd at 3:00 pm at the Mark Twain Library. Back by popular demand, this will be the fourth poetry event Jack has hosted at the Mark Twain Library. The public is encouraged to bring their own poems to read at the open mic portion of the program.

The emcee, featured reader and beloved teacher, Jack Powers, will be retiring from Joel Barlow High School this spring. His collection of poems, Everybody’s Vaguely Familiar” is described as “brilliant, humanistic, quick-witted and fast-paced” and “a book that will last” by D Nurkse, “as human as it gets” by Kevin Pilkington, and a book that “reminds me how grateful I am to be alive” by Jennifer Franklin. Jack won the 2015 and 2012 Connecticut River Review Poetry Contests, and he was a finalist for the 2013 and 2014 Rattle Poetry Prizes. His poems have appeared in The Southern Review, Poet Lore, Barrow Street, Cortland Review and elsewhere.
