A Peek into All That Summer at Wooster Offers!

During Session One, on both sunny and rainy days, the smiles on campers never ceased. In both the Recreation program and the Enrichment program, campers came each day excited to explore. Their time in Recreation includes swimming in the pool, playing tennis, gym and field games. They are running around, competing with each other, and also working together.

With games like volleyball, dodgeball, kickball, and many others; there is no shortage of things to do. The counselors pick games that each group will enjoy and often get in on the fun too! Campers of all skill learn how to play through different activities and help from our counselors.

For Sabine, a Trailblazer, her favorite part of the day is Tennis because of the games they play, like Queen of the Court and one called Star Wars. Every day the campers get to cool off by jumping in the pool or crayfishing in the brook. Between jumping competitions and different games in the pool, kids are having a blast. This is the favorite part of the day for many campers! In the mornings, Trailblazers get swim lessons. Our lifeguards teach them skills to help them to learn or become stronger swimmers. Ben says that his favorite part of the day is “teaching the kids to swim because it is so important for kids to learn and it is exciting to watch them become better.” For kids involved in Rec, they get to try a lot of different things and have fun while being active.

For campers who enjoy art and making, Summer at Wooster enrichment classes provide that opportunity. Explorers, Trailblazers, and Pioneers have art projects built into their day. They get the chance to draw, use paint, make collages, and do something different and exciting each day. Sometimes things get a little messy, but that is how camp should be! With lots of different projects, they get to let their imaginations run. The Explorers’ theme for this session was the ocean, they painted a 23 foot shark! They also painted fish, seahorses, jellyfish, and used every color possible. Trailblazers explored collages like Eric Carl and the Pioneers explored themselves by creating projects that express who they are and what makes them unique. These ages also explore with legos, building blocks, and other materials that get them to think and discover all the things they can build. Generals can also sign up for Enrichment.

In Art, they created boxes that represented themselves, created trees, and looked at using different mediums to create different projects. We also have enrichment classes that change up each session; in Session One, Coding and Shark Tank were offered. In Coding, campers at different levels pushed their knowledge and created new things. Some campers who had never coded before learned the basics and learned the possibilities within it. Others explored those possibilities. One camper created a game based off the board game Clue, programming it to reveal all three answers at the end. In Shark Tank, students came up with creative inventions like shoes that can tie themselves. They created an entire business plan and presentation to present to the “sharks”. They were challenged to really think through every part of their business, to think about customers and their products. With different classes offered each week, campers get to explore different areas of their imaginations and creativity.

At Summer at Wooster, campers are getting to explore different activities and find friends who share the same passion and excitement. For one counselor, her favorite part of working here is seeing the smiles and laughter that comes with working with and helping the campers. Whether it is playing games, art, soccer, coding, or swimming; campers get to have fun and just enjoy their summer.
