Memorial Service Planned for Redding Resident Ellsworth Potter Johnson at Meadow Ridge

Ellsworth Potter Johnson died October 14, 2019 at the Meadow Ridge Life Plan Community in Redding, Connecticut where he and his wife retired.  He was born June 15, 1921 in Springfield, Massachusetts to LeRoy and Anne Helene Potter Johnson.
 
His family moved to White Plains, New York in 1928 and he graduated from White Plains High School in 1940.  He married Susan Doris Lamprey on January 24, 1948 and they were together for 64 years prior to her death in 2012.  They were members of the Church in the Highlands.  He was a member of the of the White Plains Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow.  Ellsworth and Susan moved to Meadow Ridge in 2001.  While there, they were members of the First Congregational Church of Ridgefield.
 
He graduated from Colgate University with a BA in English in 1945 and was a member of the Konosiono Senior Honor Society and the Kappa Delta Rho fraternity.  He interrupted his college studies in order to serve in World War II with the 15th Army Air Force,  49th Wing, 451st Bomb Group, 727th Squadron based in Italy from 1944 to 1945.  He was a 1st Lieutenant Aerial Navigator.  After the war, he re-enlisted with the U.S.A.F. Reserve retiring in 1981 having achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  He spent most of his career in textile sales for the Malone Knitting Co. and Joseph Bancroft & Sons.
 
He is survived by two sons – Douglas Potter Johnson and Walter Randolph Johnson.  There are three grandchildren – Brian James Johnson and twins Peter Randolph and Rachel Sue Johnson.
 
There will be a memorial service on October 25th in the Meadow Ridge auditorium.  Interment will be at the Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York.
