Warehouse Positions at the New Danbury Amazon Delivery Station: Virtual Info Sessions Planned

DanburyWORKS and Amazon Will Partner to Offer Virtual Information Sessions About Employment

City-wide economic collaborative DanburyWORKS is partnering with Amazon to provide information sessions about how to obtain employment at the new Amazon delivery station in Danbury. The information sessions are part of efforts by DanburyWORKS to improve employment among Danbury’s Black, brown, and immigrant populations.

Amazon announced in June that it will take over the former Scholastic distribution center at 90 Old Sherman Turnpike in Danbury to create a new delivery station, in a move that will bring hundreds of jobs to the city.

The first two virtual information sessions will be held on Wednesday, August 26, from 1 to 2 pm, and on Thursday, September 10, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.

“Even before the pandemic and the unemployment it brought, 50 percent of Danbury residents were struggling to pay their bills. This new Amazon delivery station represents an opportunity for people to obtain good jobs with a potential for career growth,” said Sandra Ferreira, Director of DanburyWORKS. “We’re very happy to help Amazon reach out to our low-income residents and communities of color about employment at their facility.”

The efforts to provide information about opportunities with Amazon are being led by the workforce core group of DanburyWORKS, which includes the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce, the Department of Labor, The Bridge to Independence and Career Opportunities (TBICO), Naugatuck Valley Community College, Northwest Regional Workforce Investment Board, and Western Connecticut Regional Adult Education (WERACE).

DanburyWORKS is a city-wide collaborative focused on creating economic vitality, and links services across the community to break down barriers to economic engagement and create lasting change. Other efforts to improve employment among immigrant and minority communities in Danbury have included English language learning services and the expansion of affordable family home child care.
