Robots Coming to Katonah Saturday; Volunteers Wanted

Harvey has put out a call for area kids to volunteer this Saturday as hundreds of middle and high school students from Westchester, the Bronx, and Long Island will descend upon the Katonah school for the Southern New York VEX Robotics’  "In the Zone" State Championship tournament. The public is invited to observe the competition and organizers need student volunteers.

Harvey needs kids, ages 7-18, to help at the all-day event. Those looking for community service hours or those interested in robotics are encouraged to sign up to volunteer.

The tournament is accredited by VEX Robotics Inc. and the Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation. The tournament website is here.

In addition to Harvey, other Westchester schools competing Saturday in the tournament are Kennedy Catholic of Somers, Masters of Dobbs Ferry and Rye Country Day School.

The practice rounds and skills challenges will take place in Harvey’s 24,000 square-foot Fenstermacher Athletic Center starting at 7 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m. The qualifying rounds and finals will follow from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
