With eyes on a safe return to summer activities, the Wilton Y brings back swimming lessons with safety protocols in place

Swimming Lessons are returning to the Wilton Family YMCA on February 22nd. Following updated State and Local guidelines, new safety protocols include:

  • Smaller classes sizes
  • Masks and protective shield on Staff
  • Additional cleanings around the pool and locker rooms

“We’re excited to be back in the pool, not just because we love what we do, but because we know how important it is to start educating our community now on safe swimming,” said Samantha Lusher, Aquatics Director. “Due to the pandemic, many families have not been in or around water because of restrictions on social areas. If some of those restrictions are lifted this summer, we have to do our part to ensure everyone has access to important skills and safety measures before heading into those activities. ”

CDC research supports formal swimming lessons reduces the risk of drowning among children aged 1 to 4 years. However, many people do not have the necessary swimming skills. The Wilton Family YMCA also offers Adult, Adaptive and Private Lessons.

Registration for the program begins February 15th. For more information, please contact Samantha Lusher at slusher@riverbrookymca.org or by visiting wiltonymca.org.
