Norwalk River Valley Trail receives FCCF Donor Advised Grant for Spur Trail

The Norwalk River Valley Trail (NRVT) recently received a $100,000 milestone grant for the Glover Ave. Spur trail (Norwalk) from Fairfield County Community Foundation. The new trail spur will link Glover Ave. to the NRVT WilWalk (Norwalk/Wilton) section of the trail which is under construction this spring. This section is a critical new piece of trail as it will allow access to the NRVT for the many residents of the Glover Ave. area and importantly, provide easy access to the Metro North Merritt 7 train station.

“We are so very grateful to the generous donor advised by FCCF Donor Advised Fund, who understands the importance of greenspace in today’s world. The Glover Ave. Spur Trail will allow many new users to connect to the NRVT and use the Merritt 7 Metro North train to come from other areas as well.” said Beth Merrill, NRVT’s Executive Director.

The gift was allocated through an anonymous Donor Advised Fund managed by FCCF. With this wonderful donation, trail design and engineering can commence. The importance of this new 1000 foot spur trail is safely and connectivity for more than 4,000 residents on Glover Ave. who would need to cross a busy 4 lane road to get to the trail. It also allows trail users to connect to the Metro North train station on that road.

FCCF’s Donor Advised Fund program oversees all administration aspects of philanthropy so that individual, family and corporate donors can focus on supporting the causes that matter most to them.

“We are thrilled that our donor-advised fundholder was able to recommend this leadership grant to Norwalk Valley River Trail at this critical time in their work,” states Karen R. Brown, Fairfield County’s Community Foundation Vice President of Development and Philanthropic Services. “This fundholder shares the Community Foundation’s support of regional projects, beautifully exemplified by the NVRT,” added Ms. Brown. “This leadership funding comes also at a time when Fairfield County residents are finding respite from COVID restrictions by hiking in our beautiful places, such as the NVRT.” - Karen R. Brown, FCCF/203-750-3203
