Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT PDA FILMS!
Four questions with Paula Darlington, founder of PDA FILMS.
Why did you start your business?
I started my business after selling television advertising at Comcast. I so enjoyed the creative aspect of the process that I went to the New York Film Academy, studied directing, lighting, sound, camera work, and editing. Stories are crucial to educating people about who you are and what services you provide. I enjoy working with individuals and businesses to help them share their stories, benefits, and promotions.
What is your best-selling product/service?
My two biggest selling services are live event videography and business promotion pieces!
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
Since I own my own cameras and editing software, I don't use local businesses to produce my videos. I do however work with many theatres and organizations in the area including the Ridgefield Playhouse and many local artists. I have also done work for Western Connecticut State University, and for a dentist in Putnam County.
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
Video is becoming more and more important as many businesses use social media to engage their customers. My "reimagining" involves coming up with more specialized services including animated logos, on-location client testimonials, and more scriptwriting. Through my directing skills, I also help camera-shy individuals feel more comfortable and appear more natural in front of the lens.
Paula would like to nominate Herstatt Studios to be featured next - "This local piano and voice teacher has been working in the area for over 20 years!"
