Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT The Angel Cooperative!

Christy Abate and Laura Ancona are co-founders of The Angel Cooperative.

How The Angel Cooperative began

Business partners and friends Christy Abate and Laura Ancona started The Angel Cooperative as a place for the community to explore and purchase crystals and divination tools. They also built the first and only Shungite Room in the USA. It is a healing room offering energy work and readings. They have since expanded to include The Angel Wing, a sacred spiritual center, where they hold yoga classes, sound baths, workshops and retreats, acupuncture, massage, and more!

What is the Angel Cooperative known for?

The metaphysical boutique and spiritual center are sacred spaces offering one-stop shopping for the home, body, and soul. You will find a large selection of crystals, jewelry, inspired gifts, home décor, fashion, accessories, and spiritual items. Explore products that create a sense of harmony and balance. From crystals to clothing, love and positivity abound in the space.  The store embodies positive energy with a wide variety of merchandise and services which reflect that mission. All of our items are bestsellers!

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We use many local businesses.  Suki Schavoir is our graphic artist and is always ready to redesign our ads or explore creative ideas. We have many local healers who offer their services in our Shungite Room or Angel Wing.  Our regular practitioners are Casey Potetz, acupuncturist, Rhonda Lackow, licensed massage therapist, and healers and readers, Stephen Earnhart, Maria Davis, Annalisa Breisler, Sandy Agate, Lisa Tancredi, Alison DeNicola and Mica DeSantis, to name a few! We also love being next to Tusk and Cup for delicious snacks, salads, and coffee!

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

We love the community we have built-in Branchville. Residents from all over Connecticut and the US come to experience our metaphysical store, The Shungite Room and attend our workshops/events. Our expansion has allowed us to offer more individual and group events, increase our product mix, and build an online store.
