Republicans Elect Michael Thompson Chairman

The Redding Republican Town Committee elected Michael P. Thompson to the position of Chairman, replacing Kevin Murray, who held the position previously. The election took place at the RTC’s regular monthly meeting on Thursday, March 10h.

Mr. Thompson, 53 years old, is a longtime member of the Republican Town Committee, most recently holding the position of Vice Chairman and, before that, Secretary. He is also serving in a second term as a member of the Redding Board of Selectman. Prior to being elected to the Board of Selectman, he served on the Zoning Board of Appeals, also holding the position of Chairman.

Professionally, Mr. Thompson is a partner with the law firm of Wiggin and Dana. He holds an A.B. from Dartmouth College, an M.A. from St. John’s College in Annapolis and a J.D. with honors from the University of Connecticut. He is the former chair of the Connecticut Judicial Selection Commission and a member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Lottery Corporation. Michael, his wife Kim and their two children are 12-year residents of Redding.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the Redding Republican Town Committee the next two years and look forward to working with all our members, including our new slate of officers, to invigorate our party and the Republican brand in Redding today,” remarked Mr. Thompson.

“I believe government can provide value, particularly at the local level.  Redding Republicans serve our community best when we focus on providing necessary services in a fiscally responsible way, while recognizing the needs of all our citizens,” he continued, adding, “I am excited to increase the RTC's visibility and to identify and support candidates for elected and appointed office who will approach governing with common sense, an open mind and a willingness to work collaboratively to get things done for Redding,”

Of his decision not to seek re-election, outgoing Chairman, Kevin Murray, remarked, “While I have enjoyed my experience as chair, I’ve chosen not to continue in the role so that I can focus more on my professional life. I’m grateful that a person with Michael’s capabilities was willing to step up to the role.”

Other officers elected by the RTC in Thursday’s meeting were: Chris Hocker, Vice Chairman; Laura Hoeing, Secretary; Gary Miyashiro, Treasurer.
