Redding Residents Can Apply for an Absentee Ballot for May 4, 2021 Budget Referendum

The Annual Town of Redding and Region #9 Board of Education budget referendum will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.  Voting will be held in person at the Redding Community Center, 37 Lonetown Road, Redding from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Registered voters and residents who are U.S. Citizens, over the age of 18 years, and liable to the town for taxes on property assessed at least $2,000 are eligible to vote.  A valid ID must be presented at the polls.

Absentee balloting is available for those individuals who cannot vote in person for one of the following reasons:  active service in the armed forces; absence from town during all hours of the referendum; physical disability; illness; or religious tenets, or COVID-19.  Ballots will be available from the Town Clerk starting Thursday, April 22, 2021.

The State of Connecticut, via Executive Order 10E, has determined that the existence of COVID-19 virus allows you to vote by absentee ballot at this referendum if you so choose for your own safety, and that absentee ballots can be mailed to an applicant, if requested, and there is enough time for the ballot to reach the voter no later than May 3, 2021.

An application (Form ED-3R) must be delivered to the Town Clerk’s Office at which time the ballot will be given to the applicant.  If the applicant is unable to come in person, he or she can designate a member of their family to pick up their ballot and return it to the Town Clerk.  An application must still first be completed and delivered to the Town Clerk with the designation of a family member to hand carry the ballot.  To apply for an absentee ballot in person, please call or email the Town Clerk for an appointment.

An Application for Absentee Ballot for Referendum Authorized to be Held with Less Than 3 Weeks Notice – Form ED-3R, can be picked up at the Town Clerk’s Office or downloaded by clicking here.  Completed applications can be mailed to Town Clerk, P.O. Box 1028, Redding Center, CT 06875-1028 or can be deposited in the Ballot Drop Box located on the porch of Town Hall.

PLEASE NOTE:  If you are designating someone to pick up your ballot or would like your ballot mailed, please complete the application and file with the Town Clerk as soon as possible.  The ballot will then be mailed or issued to your designee in person on or about April 22, 2021.

Completed absentee ballots may be mailed to the Town Clerk’s Office, or deposited in the Ballot Drop Box located on the porch of Town Hall.  Ballots must be received by the Town Clerk no later than 8:00 p.m. on the day of the referendum.
