Police Pursuit Of Vehicle With Child Aboard Ends With Crash On I-84 In Newtown

On March 16, 2017 at approximately 9:10 p.m. a Southbury Resident Officer was dispatched to a possible vehicle into a snow bank on Southford Road, Southbury. Southbury Officers were able to free the vehicle from the snow when the female operator, Yavonda Bradley of Danbury, drove away at a high rate of speed, engaging Southbury in a motor vehicle pursuit on RT 67 southbound.  The pursuit was quickly broken off due to there being a child in the vehicle and the operator having been identified.

Approximately five mins later, Southbury Officers observed Bradley’s vehicle driving north on Rt 67. The vehicle started to merge onto I-84 eastbound, exit 15 the wrong way. The operator then corrected herself and came back down the ramp and entered I-84 westbound at exit 15 the correct way. Three Southbury Officers followed Bradley onto I-84, and were joined by one CSP cruiser, but were not pursuing the vehicle.  Bradley then accelerated at a high rate of speed and struck Southbury Officer Jaskolka’s cruiser on the passenger side at I-84 exit 11. Officer Jaskolka was not injured.  Bradley then lost control of her vehicle and struck the rear of a tractor trailer. Bradley and the child passenger were transported for evaluation.  This incident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
